40,000 years after human society collapsed machines had officially taken the helm of running the world in their programmer's vision of a fair and unified society, no matter how harsh. While humans still existed in sizeable numbers, they were relinquished from their role as the organizing class of the world. The machines had overtaken control of what humans had left behind, and managed to get a lot done despite the severe shortage of natural resources. Though they had very firm control in major cities, they were struggling to gather the resources to move outward and tame the western frontier of America. As history repeats itself, so to does the era of the Wild West.

Ordered to bring law to the lawless town of Los Diablos, cybernetically-enhanced human envoy Lukas Crawford ventured into the heart of darkness. His mission was to capture or kill a man known only as "Mudhook", gang leader and one of the last five-hundred or so remaining human defectors who oppose the rule of the machines. Through cunning and brute force he's managed to stake claim over Los Diablos, and plans to expand rapidly.

As an envoy for the machines, you might assume that Lukas Crawford was a cold and unfeeling man. The truth couldn't be further. The way he saw it was that humans, despite all their destructive emotions were never beyond saving. His only goal in life to now was to create an understanding with the machines that humans deserve the same liberties machines have. To him there would be no better way of proving it than by liberating Los Diablos from the selfish evil of the man known as Mudhook.
